History has been made as we hosted the Illawarra Stingrays FC in round one of the WNPL1 competition
History has been made as we hosted the Illawarra Stingrays FC in round one of the WNPL1 competition at Lambert Park. With much hype surrounding this day, our girls delivered the goods taking 4 wins and a draw from the five matches played, as they put the Stingrays to the sword. The highlight coming at the end as 1st Grade recorded a big win to round out a perfect Sunday at fortress Lambert Park.
1st Grade saw a new look side take to the pitch this season and it didn't start too well as the girls conceded an early goal. But they dug deep from that point on and dominated large parts of the 1st half and the equaliser came just before halftime thanks to a great strike from Princess Ibini to get her team back into the match. With their backs up, our girls took control from that point on, and 3 more goals, another to Prini and a double to Georgia Yeoman-Dale in the 2nd half, ended any hope of a Stingrays comeback. And in so doing, our girls secured our clubs first ever win at this level. A fantastic team effort. Final score 4-1.
Our Reserves dominated their match too and created many chances but they just couldn't find the back of the net. Georgia Bridges came closest to scoring in the 1st half but it wasn't to be as this match ended in a scoreless draw.
Earlier, our Youth teams took three fantastic wins to get our day off to the perfect start. The 14s opened our day with a big win. They took control of their match early on and piled on three goals to one as they bounced back from last weeks loss with a good win. Goals to Olivia Mazzotta and a sweet double to Dani Mandile ensured the win. Final score 3-1.
The 15s finally had something to cheer about as they ground out a good win. Its been tough going at times but this result showed they will be competitive this season. Score 1-0 (OG)
And Finally the 17s took another big win in what was a dominant display from them once again. But it did't start well as they too conceded an early goal, but once they found their rhythm, they put three unanswered goals past a hapless Stingrays side, and secured their 4th win of the season. Goals to Dani Rutstien, from a fantastic header, and a fantastic double from Therese Bechara. Match ending 3-1.
It was a Historic and successful day at Lambert Park for our club, coming through undefeated as we now look forward to our next challenge this coming Sunday Against the FNSW Institute at Valentine Sports Park......FORZA APIA!
